The ME520T is a highly versatile microscope for materials inspection using transmitted and reflected light. Primarily designed as an upright metallurgical microscope, the high-power 100W epi-illumination system can be used for brightfield, darkfield, and basic polarized-light. Wafer inspection and metallographic applications will greatly benefit from the illumination modes. The addition of transmitted lighting provides even more flexibility for biological specimens, or backlighting hollow or porous materials. This instrument will be indispensable in any biology, medical, or materials lab.
Viewing Head
The microscope's head is designed for precision and comfort. The super-widefield optics provide a larger field-of-view so you can see more specimen at any magnification. Compensation-free Siedentopf interpupillary adjustment allows any user to properly align the oculars without readjusting focus. For users with astigmatism or asymmetrical vision, the left ocular can be adjusted to fine-tune focus. The photo port is equipped with a 23mm tube for attaching cameras with compensating lenses, and is height-adjustable to match focus with the eyepieces. The port is compatible with our YX series C-mount adapters which can attach directly to C-mount cameras without a compensating lens – ideal for 1” format sensors. The head is set to a 30° incline which is ideal for viewing from a standing position, and it can be rotated 360°.
Optics
The infinity-corrected optical system eliminates optical errors when using filters and other in-line components, ensuring highly precise images. This is important to guarantee optical resolution and field-flatness when using the episcopic illuminator and any additional filtering.
The quintuple objective turret has three RMS objective mounts and two M25 mounts for BD brightfield/darkfield objective lenses. Five RMS lenses are included for transmitted or reflected lighting ranging from 5X to 100X. 10X and 20X BD lenses are included for use with brightfield and darkfield reflected lighting for extreme versatility. With the 10X eyepieces, six unique magnifications are available from 50X to 1000X. The turret's reversed orientation provides more working room above the stage. These high-quality lenses are achromatically corrected to improve resolution and color accuracy, with planatic flat-field correction to provide edge-to-edge sharpness.
The Stage
The 3-layer mechanical stage provides smooth and precise movement for examination of specimen slides, with a large translation range for viewing larger samples. The stage's low-position controls are conveniently placed near the coaxial focus knobs for a streamlined workflow. Examining specimens is intuitive and precise for users at any skill level. Symmetrical focus controls are coaxially mounted for fast, intuitive focusing. A height limit can be set to prevent contact damage, as well as presetting optimal focus distance.
Koehler Episcopic Illumination
The episcopic illuminator provides 100W of incandescent light, with field and aperture diaphragms for precise control of contrast. Proper adjustment will produce even illumination across the field with improved collimation. The optimized brightness and centering will result in consistent lighting for brightfield applications, and critical improvements in darkfield applications.
The microscope is equipped with 10X and 20X BD (brightfield/darkfield) objective lenses which double as darkfield condensers when using reflected lighting. A slider on the front of the illuminator lets you quickly switch between brightfield and darkfield modes, allowing you to highlight different details.
The illuminator is also equipped with a polarizer and analyzer for even more flexibility. Reflected polarized-lighting will pronounce details in a range of materials and microelectronics, particularly those with birefringent components.
Koehler Transmitted Illumination
Built on Koehler illumination principals, the sub-stage lighting provides evenly-distributed light for optimal contrast. The rear-mounted 30W halogen light-source provides 100 CRI illumination with ample brightness for contrast-enhancement methods like darkfield. The lower color temperature of the halogen light-source causes less eyestrain compared to high-Kelvin LED. The light condenser uses a swing mechanism for optimized lighting at both high and low magnifications, with a NA0.25 setting for full coverage at extremely low magnifications. An iris diaphragm allows you to adjust the aperture to optimize contrast and depth-of-field. The condenser holder uses rack-and-pinion height adjustment for precision control, and is centerable for proper alignment. The condenser is top-mounted for easier replacement when working with additional condensers. The illuminator's field lens provides an iris diaphragm to control light-spread, optimizing contrast and definition in specimen features.
Digital Imaging
1080p Digital Imaging with HDMI
This microscope comes with a 1080p multifunction camera which can be used to record directly while streaming images to a monitor or TV, or with a computer. Connected to an HDMI monitor or TV, 1080p live video can be viewed at a super-smooth 60fps, while recording directly to a Secure Digital card at 25fps. The included USB mouse allows you to make adjustments in the internal software for settings such as white-balance and exposure. Optionally, a companion HDMI monitor can be attached directly to the camera, creating a self-sufficient turnkey system.
As an alternative solution, connect the camera to a computer via USB for remote software control. The included Windows software offers image-development and measurement tools, as well as advanced compositing features such as image-stitching and extended-depth-of-focus. With the ability to calibrate scales at multiple magnifications, the software can be used for multi-level inspection. For Mac and Linux, there is a lite version of the software which can capture video and still images, and includes limited processing features.

Packing List:
1080p/5MP Digital Imaging with HDMI
This microscope comes with an HDMI-capable digital camera, delivering 1080p video up to 60fps, and 5MP still images. The highly-sensitive digital sensor makes this camera ideal for low-light applications, including dark-field and fluorescence. Able to be used as a standalone recording device using Secure Digital memory, or as a WiFi camera on a networked computer, this is an extremely flexible imaging solution.
Connected to an HDMI monitor or TV, 1080p live video can be viewed at a super-smooth 60fps.
Optics
The quintuple objective turret has three RMS objective mounts and two M25 mounts for BD brightfield/darkfield objective lenses. Five RMS lenses are included for transmitted or reflected lighting ranging from 5X to 100X. 10X and 20X BD lenses are included for use with brightfield and darkfield reflected lighting for extreme versatility. With the 10X and 15X eyepieces, twelve unique magnifications are available from 50X to 1500X.

Packing List:
Optics
The quintuple objective turret has three RMS objective mounts and two M25 mounts for BD brightfield/darkfield objective lenses. Five RMS lenses are included for transmitted or reflected lighting ranging from 5X to 100X. 10X and 20X BD lenses are included for use with brightfield and darkfield reflected lighting for extreme versatility. With the 10X and 20X eyepieces, eight unique magnifications are available from 50X to 2000X.

Packing List:
With the 10X and 25X eyepieces, ten unique magnifications are available from 50X to 2500X.
