Get started with your AmScope MU Series camera
AmScope MU Series cameras turn a compatible microscope into a digital imaging system. Connect the camera to a computer to view specimens live, capture photos and video, adjust image settings, and take calibrated measurements using AmScope camera software. Models in the MU Series vary by resolution and USB connection, but the basic download and setup process is similar across the series.
- Live viewing Display the microscope image on your computer.
- Photo and video capture Document, save, and share your observations.
- Measurement tools Calibrate and measure specimens within the software.
Before downloading: Check the model number printed on the camera body, such as MU900 or MU1803. You will need the exact model and your computer's operating system to select the correct download. For MA, MC, MT, or HD1080 cameras, use the other camera-series support guide.
Download camera software and drivers
Choose your operating system below to download the available MU Series camera software directly.
Windows and macOS
Select the download that matches the operating system on your computer.
AmScope for Windows
MU Series imaging software for supported Windows computers.
AmScopeSetup_v4.12.31631.zip Download for WindowsAmLite for Mac
MU Series imaging software for supported macOS computers.
AmScopeAmLite_20260413.dmg Download for MacLinux
Not sure which one? Choose x64 for most modern Intel or AMD Linux computers, ARM64 for 64-bit ARM systems, or x86 only for a legacy 32-bit system.
AmLite for ARM64
For supported 64-bit ARM Linux computers.
AmScopeAmLite.arm64.tar.bz2 Download ARM64AmLite for x64
For most modern 64-bit Intel or AMD Linux computers.
AmScopeAmLite.x64.tar.bz2 Download x64AmLite for x86
For supported legacy 32-bit Intel or AMD Linux computers.
AmScopeAmLite.x86.tar.bz2 Download x86Need another version or additional driver?
Use the complete software-download library if your MU model requires a different file or if you need additional software.
Installation tip: Close other camera applications before installing. Extract compressed Windows or Linux files first, run the installer, follow the prompts, and restart the computer if requested. Connect the MU camera after installation unless the installer instructs you otherwise.
Set up your MU Series camera
Complete the software installation first, then assemble and connect the camera using the steps below.
Identify the components
Locate the camera body, reduction lens, and supplied USB cable. Depending on the model, the camera may use a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 connection.
Remove every protective cap
Remove the protective caps from both the camera body and the reduction lens. A cap left in place is a common cause of a black preview.
Attach the reduction lens
Thread the compatible reduction lens onto the camera body, then insert the camera assembly into the microscope's camera or trinocular port.
Connect and open the camera
Connect the supplied USB cable directly to the computer, open the installed camera software, and select your model from the Camera List.
Get a clear live image
- Turn on the microscope illumination.
- Confirm that the microscope's camera-path shutter is open.
- Start at the lowest microscope magnification.
- Center and focus the specimen through the eyepieces first.
- Select the camera model in the software's Camera List.
- Adjust exposure, white balance, and preview resolution as needed.
Capture, record, and measure
Use Snap to capture a still image and Record to create a video. If the image orientation does not match the specimen, use the horizontal or vertical Flip control.
Measurements must be calibrated separately for each optical magnification and capture resolution. For a guided walkthrough, watch the camera calibration video tutorial.
Troubleshoot common camera issues
Open the issue that best matches what you see and work through the checks in order.
The camera does not appear in the Camera List
- Confirm that the software and drivers match the exact model number and operating system.
- Disconnect and reconnect both ends of the supplied USB cable.
- Connect the camera directly to the computer instead of through an unpowered hub or docking station.
- Try another compatible USB port and close any other application that may be using the camera.
- Restart the computer. If the model still does not appear, reinstall the current download for your camera.
The camera is recognized, but the preview is black
First remove every cap from the camera body and reduction lens. Then confirm that the microscope light is on and the silver shutter pin or camera-path selector is positioned to send light to the camera port.
The preview is blurry or difficult to focus
- Begin with the microscope's lowest magnification.
- Focus the specimen through the eyepieces before fine-tuning the camera image.
- Make sure the reduction lens is fully attached and the camera sits straight in the port.
- Increase illumination and adjust exposure if the image is dim or noisy.
- If using a Barlow or auxiliary lens, remember that higher magnification reduces working distance and field of view.
The image color looks incorrect
Remove the specimen, place a clean white surface under the objective, raise the light to an even level, and run the software's White Balance control. Return the specimen and fine-tune exposure only after white balance is complete.
The image is mirrored or upside down
Use the software's Flip Horizontal or Flip Vertical setting until the on-screen orientation matches the direction you need.
Measurements are inaccurate
Calibrate with a stage micrometer at the same microscope magnification and image resolution you will use for measuring. Save a separate calibration for every magnification and resolution combination. Changing either one can invalidate the previous calibration.
